Article: Save the planet through sustainable web design by .net magazine

Sustainability is often mistaken as synonymous with "green" or environmentally friendly. Ecological sustainability is not the only consideration, for a product to be truly sustainable it must consider social and economic implications as well as ecological ones. A sustainable website serves its purpose effectively and can be managed and continued into the future without negative impacts to the environment, website users or the owner. Core areas of web sustainability include efficiency, openness and designing for good.
